I became fascinated with Latino culture in high school when I began studying Spanish. I enjoyed studying the similarities and differences in Spanish and English and always looked for opportunities to learn more about the language and the cultures of Latin America. I continued my studies of the Spanish language and literature from the Spanish-speaking world in college at Marshall University.
After graduating from Marshall University, I continued to study Spanish at the graduate level at the University of Florida. After completing my Master’s in Spanish, I became interested in how people acquire a second (or third) language. As a result, I began studying foreign language education. I completed my Ed.S. and Ph.D. in foreign language education at the University of Florida. This lead to a career in teaching Spanish.
I have taught Spanish at various levels: middle school, high school, and college. Currently, I teach beginning Spanish language classes at Perimeter College at Georgia State University. I thoroughly enjoy teaching my students about the Spanish language, the cultures of the Americas and Spain, and about how speaking a second language can enhance their lives and careers. I look forward to writing more novels on Latino culture in the U.S. In fact, a second novel about the adventures of Bobby and Miguel is in the works!
